Family photography as we know it has evolved quite a bit down through the years. For the longest time it was really meant to just capture your likeness so you could have a personal image to hang in your home as art. And there are still absolutely photographer's that work that way. The images are beautiful, but they aren't quite what I do. And that is really the beauty of it all.
There is something for everyone these days. Even smart phones have made it so you are carrying a camera on you at all times. As a society, I am thrilled that we value our own memories so much.
But with the rise of social media there is this pressure for some to get it perfect. To look perfect. For the kids to behave perfectly. To be perceived as absolute perfection.
And that is where what I do departs from other photographers as well.
Because I am much more invested in what this season of life feels like versus what it looks like for you. This should come as af relief. It lets you off the hook, because spoiler alert. No one really is perfect anyway. It's unattainable.
And this also doesn't mean life has to feel perfect either. Because life is messy and sometimes hard and yet you still deserve to have images shining a light on the things that mattered in this season. And they can still be beautiful and meaningful and give you a really special experience.
Through the years I have met many families in many walks of life. Some were facing extreme hardship while others were just in a transition phase. Some women were worried about their weight (which always makes me a bit sad, but as a woman myself I understand.) Others were under the strain of children being diagnosed with medical ailments or maybe they were like myself and had children on the spectrum. I have heard and seen it all.
I just want to emphasize you will never be judged with me. It is first and foremost always my mission the a listening ear. The truth is most families have something major going on at any given time. The world we live in can be unkind.
But I always hope so much to tell your story authentically & poetically. These can be whatever you need them to be. And I will always gladly be a listening ear because you as a person truly means more to me than you may realize.
I am happy to be part of your village.
