Well, Hello Lovely. My name is Sarah & I'm so happy you're here.

Northern Colorado Family & Lifestyle Photographer

I am an memory & moment focused photographer, mentor + educator and all around deep feeler. I have been pretty lucky to get to do this for the better part of nearly two decades and I really love my job.

If "wear your heart on your sleeve" was a personality type, it would sum me up pretty well. According to all the personality tests I have taken, I am an INFJ and an Enneagram 4. If you don't care about any of that, just know I am too nostalgic for my own good and when I am not creating art of some kind, I love to be home with my own humans.

I am also a girl's girl and am obsessed with helping women to feel both beautiful and seen, so photographing motherhood is one of my favorite things to capture. Supporting other women in general, equally so. My main speciality is connection and really seeing others well. I care about the humans I get to photograph. I absolutely romanticize my life (and everyone else's.)

And if you're another photographer reading this & want a mentor that wants to see you grow, that honors your voice and is here to not only teach but nurture you, I would love to work with you.

"Creativity belongs to the artist in each of us. To create means to relate. The root meaning of the word art is “to fit together” and we all do this every day. Not all of us are painters but we are all artists. Each time we fit things together we are creating – whether it is to make a loaf of bread, a child, a day."

Motherhood

I am a Mama of a large brood and have centered my entire business around my family. I just couldn't imagine missing anything, so instead of trying to juggle it all I brought my two worlds together. My husband Wes has been alongside me in this journey since the very humble beginnings. He has been to just about every session I have ever had. You will likely even meet him on your session. He keeps the Dad's happy and makes sure we don't get lost. Most people like him more than me and I promise I won't take it personally if you do too ha!

my favorite things

"I LOVE LIGHT, HONEST EMOTION, ENCOURAGING OTHERS, LOOKING FOR MAGIC IN THE EVERYDAY, CELEBRATING EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE IMPERFECT, NOVELTY, COLOR, LISTENING TO THE SAME SONG ON REPEAT IF I REALLY LIKE IT. I ALSO LOVE TO RETREAT TO THE MOUNTAINS BECAUSE I LIVE IN A PRETTY GORGEOUS PLACE, AND COLORADO NEVER DISAPPOINTS. WE TRAVEL HERE AND THERE AS WELL AND TAKE SESSIONS ALONG THE WAY. I AM ENDLESSLY CURIOUS ABOUT LIFE OUTSIDE OF AND AROUND ME."

A few more facts about me

Close-up portrait of young child with curly hair lying on floral fabric.

I've been a photographer for

almost 24 years! I've been photographing families for 17 of those and love every bit of it. I started out just taking photos of my own children and it just kind of grew from there. I have been published in books and magazines and have traveled the world teaching for much of that time.

I'm obsessed with

Outlander (the books not so much the show), color, watching people make art, Redvines, Documentaries, Noah Kahan, Coffee Mugs, Nostalgia, the hour before everyone wakes up and the house is quiet, but also my family and costco hotdogs.

The place i was born IN

is New london, CT which means I am an east coast girly at heart (we really are nice I swear) but we moved to colorado sight unseen in 2011.

A challenge I face is

being diagnosed with ADHD. I actually found out in high school, but didn't really know what it meant until decades later. It makes me exremely creative and empathetic. It also means I don't sleep ever and tend to need a really good system to function.

i'm a mother of

nine children. Yes! It's a bit wild. No, we aren't traditional in nature and yes I work hard to beat every single stigma you thought of when you read that. My kids are the coolest people ever and I am obsessed with them. Our kids range in age from 24 down to 1!

The Name My Four Hens

is actually a play on my last name Cornish. We had four children at the time and I couldn't come up with anything so I used my babycenter username.

newfound inspiration

Something I'd like to photograph more of this year:

A rustic farm scene at sunset with horses in a barn while people stand in the foreground.
A playful sequence shows two people engaging in a game of leapfrog outdoors on a grassy lawn.
A series of candid photos showing people lounging on brown leather couches in a cozy living room setting.
Zoo staff members interact with a large elephant through a protective barrier during a training session.
A young child in a floral dress laughs joyfully while playing outdoors during golden hour.

Last year I made it a priority to photograph families with sessions that told their stories in a new and authentic way. I hosted these sessions in home, in the family backyard, at the mini golf course range and at the campground. I even got to photograph a mama and her sweet girls on her farm and around her greenhouse. It left me wanting so much more.

While I will always offer my outdoor sessions in nature because they are special and beautiful, I really want to continue to create in the places and spaces my families find most intimate. If this might be something you are interested in, I have new packages available at a discounted rate for now and would love to create this for you.

Love Letters from my sweet families

Playful family moment in a backyard with people creating a human pyramid on the grass.

"I have had the privilege of Sarah documenting my family a number of times and each time she amazes me with her artistry, her attention to details and the way she sees my family through her lens. There are photos in each gallery she delivers that make me stop and stare because they are unlike any other photo I have seen. She sees my family through the lens of love and delivers priceless portraits every single time.

I can’t tell you how many times my kids have asked to “go play with Miss Sarah”. Because that’s what sessions feel like with Sarah. They feel like playing with a precious friend. They feel like being loved.

I can’t adequately explain how grateful I am for the memories Sarah has captured for me and my family. I know, without a doubt, that I will treasure them forever."

"We’ve had the pleasure of working with My Four Hens Photography for several years now, and I can confidently say that every experience has been exceptional. Sarah has a one-of-a-kind ability to capture moments in such a genuine, artistic way that our family memories have become beautiful works of art in our home. Each year, we look forward to our sessions, knowing we’ll not only receive stunning photographs but also have a truly enjoyable experience. Over the years, Sarah and her family have become more than just a photographer to us—they’ve become lifelong friends and part of our family. Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine care make every session memorable, and the photos she produces are treasures we will cherish forever."

Sarah is so much more than just a photographer. In the several times that she has photographed our family we were able to bear witness to the all the magic she brings, not to just the portraits, but also into this world.

The way she allows space for you to just show up, in whatever stage of life you’re in, no matter the mood of your kids or the chaos that follows you around, she will meet you there and show you just how uniquely magnificent and worthy of being captured your story truly is. Of all the things I have, the portraits we have from Sarah are some of my most treasured. Time spent with her is a lot like meeting up with an old friend. Her art can absolutely stand alone and would be reason enough to invest in a session with her, but the woman behind it is like icing on the cake. We highly recommend Sarah over and over and over again.
